As temperatures soar higher and higher this summer, warnings are out in force about the dangers of spending too much time in cars that are just too hot for comfort. There are plenty of very serious dangers connected with the heat, such as heatstroke and dehydration, so follow these tips to try to avoid damaging yourself and your passengers if you have to make any journeys in the sun this summer.

Primarily, you should try to avoid driving during the hottest time of the day - advice you might recognise from sunbathing adverts. The sun is at its most dangerous between the hours of 11am and 3pm, so if you can keep out of the car and somewhere shaded during these hours, it is recommended.

By planning your trip and choosing your route ahead of time, you can speed up your journey and spend less time in the car too, so checking maps and having alternate routes handy is always a good idea.

If you're inevitably going to be making a long journey, however, there are things you can do to make it more bearable. For example, keep lots of bottled water on hand to ensure you and your passengers stay hydrated and, if you have to leave the car for any amount of time, you should place white towels over seats in order to prevent them from getting too hot. If you've ever sat on a leather seat after it's been heated by the sun, you will understand the value of this practice!

You can prevent your car from overheating too much by parking in shaded areas, which is good for your car generally as well as keeping the interior air cool. You can also keep that air cool by pointing air conditioners up towards the roof of the car rather than at individual passengers. The cool air will bounce off of the roof and move down below, ensuring an even distribution of cool air.

For the benefit of your car itself, make sure your tyres are in good condition and properly inflated. Heat-related tyre failure is the biggest cause of tyre failure, so it is something that should be avoided if possible. You should also check your vehicle's fluids before setting off because your car may overheat or fully break down if it is not well-oiled.

Finally, if you're in doubt about your vehicle's capabilities for making a journey in your heat, you might want to consider car hire from a reputable company to ensure that the car you'll be using is completely up to the journey.

The forecast summer heat wave has impacted on holiday booking preferences of the UK population, especially in the wake of the recession. So, rather than book holidays abroad, many British families have opted to stay home and sample the delights that the UK has to offer.

'Must-visit' destinations for those staying at home are likely to include the nation's capital, as it has so much to offer in such a relatively small space. For example, The London Eye, which will probably retain its number one spot as the nation's most popular attraction by drawing in tens of thousands of visitors during summer, closely followed by the waxworks at Madame Tussauds.

The London Aquarium is becoming increasingly popular, especially in drawing visitors to its glass walkway beneath the sharks. Because of its proximity to the London Eye it is likely to be visited by many taking in both attractions.

Because of the increase in the number of stay-home holidaymakers there is a fair chance that London accommodation will be in short supply during the height of summer. However, those who think they may struggle to get reasonably priced digs may inadvertently benefit from a recent unexpected tragedy.

The death of Michael Jackson which led to the subsequent cancellation of the 50 gigs he was due to perform at the O2 Arena will impact on numerous hotels in London. That is because many of the singing star's global army of fans were planning on travelling from all four corners of the world to see their hero in action, and had already reserved rooms at many London hotels.

Many of those reservations are bound to be cancelled meaning that there may be some great London hotel bargains to be had at the height of summer.

Also, because of the hole in the O2's schedule the venue is adding new productions daily including a superb event taking place there during September, namely a live presentation of Ben Hur which promises to include the spectacular chariot race, which is central to the story.

Without adding the expense of buying tickets to London attractions there are plenty of things to see in the capital that are free of charge. Fabulous historic buildings such as the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and many others can be viewed from the outside for free. Indeed, there is so much to do and see in London the only difficult choice will be what to leave out!

Bonny Scotland is set to see the amount of visitors to the country soar this summer as more Britons choose to take their main family holiday within these shores, rather than jet off to the sun.

The Camping and Caravanning Club has noted that demand for camping holidays in Scotland has shot up by 40% on the previous year and although camp sites throughout the rest of the UK are also showing increased demand, the uptake for Scottish bookings is rising faster than anywhere else in the British Isles.

Hotel bookings are also on the increase as more people decide to venture north for their summer holiday rather than jet off to foreign shores. Renowned for its stunning countryside and coastline, Scotland also features two of Britain’s largest towns in Glasgow and Edinburgh; both packed with numerous attractions for young and old.

In addition, there's the glorious Cairngorms National Park which offers some of the most outstanding scenery, excellent walks and even mountaineering for the adventurous and lovers of the outdoor; plus, the Highlands and a host of other attractions too numerous to mention.

If you are one of the hundreds of thousands heading to Scotland, travel insurance may be a worthwhile consideration. Many people who holiday in the UK forego holiday insurance as their possessions are covered by their home contents insurance. That may well be true but there could be an increase in your home insurance premiums if you make a claim, whereas for a relatively small one-off fee, there’s no danger of losing your no-claims bonus plus travel insurance will cover you for much more than your home contents policy.

Although travel insurance will cover you against a number of potential holiday problems, if you are planning on doing anything out of the ordinary - such as an extreme or hazardous sport - it is worth speaking to your provider beforehand whether your travel insurance quote covers you for such activities.

But, whatever it is that draws you to beautiful Scotland you will no doubt have a great time; whether in the cities or the countryside or both!

Marshall is the home of the American Museum of Magic. Illusionists such as David Copperfield, David Blaine, Harry Houdini and other are mesmerizing.

You have to make an appointment to visit the American Museum of Magic in Marshall, Michigan. That is what the sign says on the front door.  Tours are given by appointment only. The museum contains over one million pieces of memorabilia collected by Mr. Lund before his death. Many of the memorabilia center around Harry Houdini, but other illusionists are also presented. The museum contains many posters. The museum had been opened only to magicians. Now it is open to the general public, by appointment only.

Do not be surprised if no one shows up for your appointment. Mrs. Lund operates the museum.  Her not showing up for the appointment is highly unusual, according to the proprietor of the coffee shop next door. She is seventy-five years old. We asked the coffee shop owner to see if someone could make a drive by of her home.

Take a quiet drive around the city.  Marshall, Michigan is known for many stately mansions, including the Honolulu House and the Governor to be House.   Presently the home of the Marshal Historical society, the "Honolulu House." was built by Abner Pratt in 1860. He was chief justice of the Michigan Supreme Court, 1853-1857, and United States Council to Hawaii (1857-1859) under President James Buchanan.     The house is a copy of a house in Honolulu, Hawaii, which Abner Pratt enjoyed.

The Governor to be House was built because Marshall had been considered to be in the running to become the state capital.  It lost out to Lansing.  The house presently is the headquarters of the Mary Marshall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
