How to Get the Most Out of a Cruise Vacation

Cruise vacations offer something for everybody. Whether your ideal cruise involves basking in the sun with a cocktail, keeping active with exciting sports activities, or exploring the vivid local culture of port cities, a cruise vacation gives you plenty of options. In fact, most cruises offer so many choices that it’s easy to feel a little overwhelmed. How can you be sure that you’re getting the most out of your cruise vacation? Take a look at these helpful cruise ship tips to make sure you take advantage of all that your ship has to offer.

Cruise ships are veritable floating activity centers. If you get bored relaxing in your room or reading a book while you soak up the sun, you can check out the pool, hit the gym, take a class, go to a show, or participate in any of the other fun activities on the ship. Be aware, however, that some of the activities have to be booked before you leave. While most will be free, there could be limited space, or the ship might need to know how many people are coming so they can plan the activity properly. If you don’t sign up, you could miss out. Don’t just wander around the ship. Go to the information desk on the first day and sign up for any activities that seem like fun.

With so many activities going on around the ship, it pays to have an itinerary posted in your room, and one that you can carry with you. Every morning, note the activities that interest you, and arrive about ten minutes early to get a good seat. Part of the appeal of a cruise is that you don’t have to do a ton of planning, but having the itinerary can help ensure that you’re never bored.

You won’t be able enjoy your cruise if you’re sick the entire time. Most cruise ships have an infirmary stocked with medications to help you feel better if you get seasick, but before you leave, you might what to pick up your own remedies for the trip. You can also see your doctor if you know that you’re prone to motion sickness. Ask about natural remedies, like ginger, that can prevent or alleviate symptoms.

To get the most of your cruise, you need to leave the ship. Almost every cruise stops at one or more port city, and most have excursions that allow guests to go ashore for a few hours. Take advantage of the opportunity to learn about local culture, do some shopping, and participate in planned activities and tours. Sometimes, you have to pay a fee to go on the excursion, but the price is well worth it.

You may be on the cruise as a family, but that doesn’t mean that you have to do everything together. Many cruise lines offer childcare options. This gives your kids a chance to meet new friends and enjoy fun activities that are supervised by childcare professionals. It also lets you unwind or spend quality time with your spouse, partner or friends. After an afternoon of fun, you can meet up with the kids for dinner and some family activities.

Cruises often have multiple food options. Some may be free and open all day for guests who want to take full advantage of a buffet. Other options will be more formal, serving meals to guest who prefer to dress up and watch a show with dinner. Try to check out all of the food options while on your cruise. A cruise is a great opportunity to sample new kinds of food. Remember, though, many cruises do not include drinks in the price of the all inclusive ticket, so be careful not to run up your bill with soft drinks and martinis if you’re on a budget.

If you want to get the most out of your cruise vacation, don’t forget your camera. You’ll make tons of memories on your trip, whether you go with your family, with a group of friends, or just by yourself. Many cruise ships have gift shops that sell disposable cameras, but it is usually less expensive just to bring your own. On some ships, you can even get film developed or print out digital photographs at their photo center.

Regardless of your cruise destination, be sure to take advantage of all that your ship has to offer. From on board activities and fine dining to exciting excursions, a cruise vacation is an unforgettable experience.

Find Out What Makes A Cruise Vacation The Perfect Getaway

What is it that makes a cruise vacation far and away the most relaxing, visually stunning vacation package available on the market today? Is it the thrilling expanse of ocean all around you? The endless blue dome of the sky? The inexhaustible range of on-board food and entertainment options?

Maybe it's the people-spending quality time, for once, stress-free, with family and friends. Who knows? You may even make some new ones. Anything can happen when you're away from your ordinary routine, simultaneously indulging yourself under the most luxurious of conditions and embarking on an epic adventure.

A Luxurious Resort Vacation Without The Resort

Plan carefully, and you can pack in a full day of swimming, shopping, gaming, sun-worship and sea-gazing. Or, toss your clipboard into the spume (or just leave it on your bed-the cleaning service will take care of it for you) and spend the day exploring, snacking, socializing with your fellow passengers and the friendly staff, and enjoying gourmet onboard meals, all included in the price of your stateroom.

Although cruising presents the perfect opportunity to enjoy a decadent treat, food plans adhering to dietary restrictions are available upon request. Once the sun goes down, leave the kids with our specially staffed Kids Crew and hit the-well, you choose! Casino, dance floor, bar-the happenings after hours are your oyster, and ripe for the shucking.

A Family Affair

There's no substitute for the grand tradition of family vacationing, and cruising presents the perfect answer to long car rides, cranky backseat passengers, sweaty, standing-room-only sightseeing and the myriad other inconveniences endured by that most assiduous of beasts, the Vacationing Nuclear Family. A great benefit of taking the family on a cruise is that, once you board the ship, the hard part is done.

You'll tour a stunning variety of destinations without the hassles of packing, driving or planning meals. Feel free, literally, to enjoy yourself-it's your vacation, too! Plus, most family cruise lines provide supervised, age-appropriate activities and clubs for younger passengers. With options like karaoke, dancing, video games and fitness programs, your kids will have the vacation of their lives. Meanwhile, the parents get to go out by themselves to find some fun of their own.

Two If By Sea

Planning a romantic getaway for two? Practically every moment of a cruise vacation holds the potential for romance. Couples renew vows, honeymoon, even hold weddings onboard cruise ships. But who needs an excuse? A relaxing break with your significant other is a perfectly good reason to haul anchor. Any cruise, with the right cruising partner, is a romantic cruise, but some cruise lines offer special packages to make your experience extra-special.

Princess Cruises offers unblushingly classic romance packages, including spa treatments, champagne on ice, moonlit lobster dinners in the privacy of your very own balcony. Norwegian ups the ante by providing couples in-bedroom massages. Holland America weds culinary education and romance, with couples' gourmet cooking lessons.

Singles Cruises

A private vacation experience can be a wonderful opportunity to relax, meditate, and enjoy quiet serenity, surrounded by nothing but water and sky. Singles' cruise options can be tailored to meet the varying needs of solo travelers. Holland America provides a bevy of opportunities to meet and mingle with your fellow shipmates, including dance partnering, social events with other cruises and even a pre-cruise online social networking program, so you can look forward to hauling anchor with a shipful of pals.

World Tour Cruises

World tour cruises are an ingenious way to enjoy all the thrills and surprises of world-travel, minus the hassles of packing, plane-hopping, or meal-planning. Take a three-month trip through the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Europe-once you decide to take to the seas, your exploration options are practically limitless. Ship to shore day itineraries, loosely structured to provide a satisfying survey of your destination spot, will find you visually captivated, fascinated by the vast cultural array.

Luxury world cruise lines such as Princess Cruises are fully equipped with all the comforts of home (plus decadent extras) so you'll enjoy the freedom and peace of mind to truly absorb all you can in your travels. World Cruises aren't for everyone. A longer voyage and strictly scheduled ports of call make this type of vacation prohibitive for many individuals.

However, with the right time and resources, a seaborne jaunt around the world can be absolutely one of the most unforgettable experiences of a lifetime. When it comes time to book your next big vacation, forgo the endless car trips and hassles of air travel in lieu of a relaxing cruise to an exotic destination. You won't be sorry you did!

Question by br1ttxx3: cruise vacation!?
so for my 16th birthday and xmas present combined, plus my sister's graduation party (6th grade), my parents promised me a trip to europe. this, apparently, was before they did their research and learned that it cost a lottttttt of money. so instead, we were going to go on a mediterranean cruise (spelling?). but now that's too much too! my parents promise me the world and then never give it to me (not that i'm spoiled or greedy or anything, but i really have always wanted to go to europe and when they told me, i was sooooooo excited. and then they just pull it out from under me). so my question is, does anyone 1). know of any cheap, nice cruises in and around the mediterranean (is there even such a thing?) or 2). can think of any other exciting place that is less then europe but still a cool place to go? i live on the east coast of the US and have been to pretty much every state on the east coast. thanksss guys. =)

Question by d y: How does a cruise vacation work?
Me and my girlfriend want to go on a cruise vacation. On cruise webpages I see the price. Is it for 1 person? What happens If I get a suite or a double bed? Do I just have to purchase 1 cruise ticket? How would this work?

Best answer:

Answer by Monika's boyfriend's wif
Price per person, multiply by 2, will have price for two (one room). Room with balcony will cost more, inside room - cheapest. Good price - if you pay about 70-80 dollars per day per person (airfare, tours, etc not included).

It is the best vacation. You will do it once, you will do it again and again. I did it 14 times

Finding the Perfect Honeymoon Cruise Vacation

A honeymoon cruise vacation can be an amazing adventure and a great way to start your life together. These cruises allow you to relax in ultimate luxury and visit exotic ports of call on your vacation. Also, because you are on a ship you will not have to worry about the normal logistics and driving that most vacations involve. You can simply book your honeymoon vacation and enjoy the cruise.

Plan ahead for the best honeymoon cruise vacation

Booking the perfect honeymoon travel cruise vacation does take a little planning and you really have a lot of choice on the details of your special day. Many of the cruise lines even provide facilities for having the wedding itself on the ship. Being married by the ship's captain or chaplain can add that little extra bit of romance to a honeymoon cruise vacation for many couples. Many of the larger ships have a chapel that can accommodate a wedding ceremony and if you arrange for the wedding in advance, they can tailor the event to your preference.

Many wedding parties have their ceremony in a traditional setting like a church and then take a portion of the wedding party with them on the honeymoon cruise vacation. Because of the size of these newer cruise ships, they allow for plenty of time for the newlyweds to be alone, and also provide a wide range of exciting activities for the wedding party as well. A honeymoon cruise can include the perfect combination of exciting travel, great social events with amazing meals and entertainment. In addition to all of the excitement while onboard, a honeymoon cruise vacation can provide great memories that can last a lifetime for you and your guests.

Using a travel agent can make things easier

When planning your honeymoon cruise vacation, you can book the event on your own or use an experienced travel agent. Many people think that using a travel agent will add to the cost of their honeymoon vacation cruise and this typically is not the case. Most travel agents have access to unpublished fares that are offered at a steep discount to their customers and this will more than offset any fees they add to a honeymoon cruise vacation package they prepare for you. Also, by using an experienced travel agent you can avoid many of the mistakes many people make when trying to organize a honeymoon cruise vacation themselves. In most cases these travel agents have booked a cruise like this before and know how best to sort out all the details. They can act like a wedding planner and help take all of the stress out of your special day. A good travel agent can also suggest the best honeymoon cruise vacation destinations to choose from and make your decision an easy one.

Check for special honeymoon cruise vacation packages

When you start planning your honeymoon cruise vacation, check with some of the major cruise lines directly. Many of them have special packages for these types of cruises and even offer a discount on fares for larger parties like yours. In many cases they will offer you special upgrades on cabins and events and help to make your honeymoon cruise vacation even more amazing and memorable. They may also offer you a dedicated coordinator to help you plan your honeymoon cruise vacation as well as someone onboard the ship to coordinate your vacation and help make it perfect for you and your guests.
