Can I plug a hair straightener into a foreign outlet without a voltage converter?
I am going to the UK, and I have a device that allows you to fit American electric plugs into European plugs, but I don't have a voltage converter. When I bought the outlet converter, I remember the guy in the store saying that some devices--specifically, hair dryers--need a voltage converter in addition to an outlet converter. Does anyone know if this is the case with hair straighteners as well? It seems like it would need less voltage than a dryer.
yes you do, the adapters just make the plugs fit, as some things will work fine with the higher voltage, my camera chargers have been around the world and work from 100 to a little over 300 volts from what the sticker on they say, a hair drier is a different story, and the "converter" you need will be able to handle some power maybe a good 1200 watts, but remember watts are watts, it power rating is at least what the device say's you will be okay either way, then the voltage is either 120 volts or 240 volts, in the uk I believe the frequency is 50 cycles but a heating device will not know the difference
